Our network of aviation partners is rapidly expanding across Canada, with three new airports coming online as allies in the last several months: Thunder Bay International, Sault Ste. Marie Airports and, just this year, Billy Bishop Ports Toronto.
We’re thrilled by the resolve and determination of our airline partners to disrupt Human Trafficking through our industry-specific #NotInMyCity e-learning and public awareness campaigns. It has been a busy year in the aviation space and, just this March, we presented as panel guests to the Vantage Airport Group. These developments represent major steps toward advancing our work in Canada, and beyond.
It was not long after taking the course they recognized the signs of Human Trafficking in someone at the airport. They followed the airport security protocols to report the incident which was followed up by airport security.

“It’s all about knowing the signs and the story” said Paul Brandt. “Human Trafficking happens in Canada, and with millions of travellers per year, airports are important strategic partners. Educating the public and influencers in key industries like transportation and increasing awareness by pointing travellers to local and national hotlines to report suspicious activity are vital steps toward keeping our communities safe.”
Just take it from Fort McMurray Airport (YMM). They’ve been incredible Allies for the past three years, and our founders Paul and Liz Brandt stopped in this past January to see them in action. YMM sponsored a community event featuring a panel discussion attended by local RCMP, airport personnel, energy industry leaders and other community stakeholders to celebrate and create space for discussion and dedication to continuing to work together to disrupt trafficking.
After the event, an airport security screener told Paul and Liz how impactful the e-learning was on their own experience. It was not long after taking the course they recognized the signs of Human Trafficking in someone at the airport. They followed the airport security protocols to report the incident which was followed up by airport security.
We will continue to pursue partnerships to educate and raise stakeholder and community awareness regarding Human Trafficking in aviation. To date, the following aviation partners have joined up with #NotInMyCity to disrupt Human Trafficking:
Your financial support helps us maintain our free education program and expand our network to bring more aviation partners on board for this critical cause.
