COMMUNITY AWARENESS
25 New Airports Have Joined #NIMC’s Awareness and Education Program
Airports across Canada are teaming up with #NotInMyCity to disrupt human trafficking and increase community awareness and safety. To date this year, 25 new airports have joined our growing roster of partners. Thanks to these airport allies, we are one step closer to achieving our goal to partner with every airport in Canada! It will take all of us working together, listening to and elevating the voices of survivors, and taking a strong stance to keep our communities free of human trafficking.
#NotInMyCity Celebrates Another Summer of Seeing Yellow
This annual summer campaign empowers allies, partners, and supporters to infuse their businesses with yellow in a united stand against human trafficking and exploitation in Canada. From a feature yellow cocktail at ONE18 Empire restaurant and bar, to styling sessions with Alayne Joy, and custom Seeing Yellow chocolate bars from Calgary-based chocolate company Sweet Bella, our allies continue to find creative ways to participate in the Seeing Yellow Campaign and help raise awareness. We encourage you to find ways to participate in the Seeing Yellow campaign year-round – learn more about how you can join!

ADVANCING EDUCATION
YYC Calgary Airport and #NotInMyCity Host a Webinar for Airports Across Canada
On June 4, #NotInMyCity partnered with YYC Calgary Airport to host an educational webinar with airport partners across Canada. The webinar was hosted from YYC Calgary Airport’s safe room and shared important insights on how their team integrates the #SeeingYellow campaign, the #NIMC online e-learning course, and other awareness and education tools. Calgary Police Service Launches #NIMC e-Learning Ahead of Calgary Stampede
Calgary Stampede attracts a huge amount of locals and tourists, and the Calgary Police Service (CPS) works diligently to keep the city safe throughout the festivities. This year ahead of the outdoor festival, CPS partnered with #NotInMyCity to ensure that all CPS officers deployed to major events are trained to recognize and respond to signs of trafficking and exploitation. Their officers signed up for #NIMC’s e-learning course, and encourage the public to join them and learn how to spot the signs of trafficking and exploitation and safely take action.

Hull Services Partners with #NotInMyCity to Share Educational Video Series
As part of our ongoing efforts to increase public awareness of sexual exploitation and human trafficking, we’ve partnered with Hull Services to share a series of educational videos targeted at youth. Hull Services is one of Canada’s largest campuses for youth mental health and healing, and understands the importance of youth education and empowerment. These short, educational videos cover a variety of topics from online safety to setting healthy boundaries, and are shared on social media channels. Follow @hull_services and @NIMCally to follow and share the video series.
#NIMC Human Trafficking Indicator Pages Are Now Available In 11 Languages
Equipping Canadians with the tools to identify the signs of human trafficking and exploitation is an important first step in keeping people safe. As #NotInMyCity founder Paul Brandt says, “Our goal is to end human trafficking in Canada, and that is only possible when all Canadians are educated and aware.” To support this effort, our Human Trafficking Indicator pages have been translated into 11 languages, including 5 Indigenous languages. The newest additions include Punjabi, Mandarin, Spanish, and Tagalog.

Edmonton International Airport Opens Its New Safe Room
To mark the United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, Edmonton International Airport (EIA) opened its new Safe Room. The Safe Room Kîsê Watotâtôwin ᑮᓭ ᐘᑐᑖᑑᐏᐣ is a dedicated space to support survivors of human trafficking, victims of domestic

Creating a Safe Haven and Revolutionizing Trauma Care at the Truant Family Medical Suite
For survivors of sexual assault, seeking medical care can be an overwhelming and retraumatizing experience. #NotInMyCity understands the importance of trauma-informed care and is shining a light on a clinic dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred support. The Truan Family Medical Suite is an off-site medical suite within the Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence (SKCOE), offering a comforting alternative for patients in need. This is a new frontier in the fight against human trafficking and is supported by the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre, Alberta Health Services and #NotInMyCity, ensuring a compassionate and survivor-centred approach to this medical care.

Learn Common Myths and Misconceptions of Human Trafficking From Survivor Karly Church
When people think of human trafficking, they often picture dramatic movie plots, kidnappings, and physical chains. But real-life trafficking and sexual exploitation in Canada is far more insidious. Traffickers operate in plain sight through a calculated process of manipulation. Karly Church understands the complexities and trauma caused by trafficking firsthand. As a survivor of sex trafficking in Canada, Karly now works with the Durham Regional Police in Ontario as a Human Trafficking Crisis Intervention Counsellor to support individuals who are currently being exploited, creating a bridge of trust between law enforcement and victims. She firmly believes that in the fight to end trafficking in Canada, education is power—it is incredibly difficult to traffic someone who is empowered to see the signs and knows what to do.
